Magdalena Kamphausen (b. 2000) is an artist desiring to bring the "other" close.
Using portraiture as a medium for analysis, meditation, and confrontation, their work is inspired by narratives, experiences, and spiritual concepts encountered as a fat, queer, and chronically ill person growing up among evangelical Christianity. Their art is often shaped by queer and feminist indie rock, italian quattrocento artwork, and whatever horror novel they read most recently. They have exhibited paintings internationally and across the Midwest, and hold a BA in Urban Studies and Studio Art. Magdalena currently works as a Studio Facilitator at Arts of Life, a progressive art studio for artists with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and is a member of Red Onion Artist Collective.
